Summary
This new high school and community centre designed for the Halifax Regional School Board includes the latest in technology for its teaching areas, two large gymnasiums and a fully functional theatre.
This 17,000m2 high school accommodates both academic and community uses, is designed for 1200 students. A large exterior courtyard, promoting the use of exterior green space, is the primary inspirational area. It is encircled by the creative heart of the school – drama, art, music, cafetorium, visual arts, etc.
Dumac Energy provided complete mechanical and electrical consulting engineering services for this project, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, security, communications, plumbing, heating, ventilation , air-conditioning, fire protection and building automation system.
The school is targeting LEED Gold as part of the CaGBC rating system; sustainable considerations include the use of regional products and products with high recycled content, such as sound batt insulation made from recycled blue jeans and insulation made with soy oil and recycled plastics.
