Alderwood Rest Home

Summary

Project consisted of a 70 bed, 69,000 square foot, 15 million dollar long term care facility. The design included 6 resident neighborhoods housing resident rooms, shared living room, dining rooms and kitchen spaces and support care spaces. Resident neighborhoods had connections to the outdoor garden spaces and the shared central resident spaces for larger community gatherings.

Dumac Energy Limited provided complete mechanical and electrical engineering design services, including an energy efficient ventilation system, heating, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, normal power distribution, diesel generator and emergency power distribution, fire alarm, voice and data wiring, nurse call and building automation systems.


Alderwood achieved Silver LEED certification. Major efforts that contributed to LEED certification were exhaust heat recovery, solar domestic hot water, a high performance building envelope, radiant in-slab heating and high efficiency equipment & appliances.

Dumac Energy provided a complete engineering package beginning with conceptual design, preparation of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, and on-site review as the facility was constructed.
